Where did it even begin? when did this start? When will there be a frantic rush of people trying to find stock parts for their “stanced” cars in a frantic attempt to return them to stock and preserve a tiny bit of resale value?

That Miata made me laugh maniacally. It looks like something from Ahhh Real Monsters.

I found this article through Wikipedia’s page on lowriders , which has some history on the “slammed” aspect of “stance”.
But as for the obsession with outrageous camber, I want to say that it probably started with people noticing drift camber and deciding that despite the dubious road-worthiness, it “looked cool”. ...and then it just escalated far beyond drift spec into parody.

look towards the shakotan style and that gives you a good beginning point for “stance” history

Easy. Once another stupid fad comes around.
Back in the 60s and 70s everyone would jack the back of their cars up with drag tires and flame paint jobs. Oftentimes it changed the weight distribution and made the cars launch worse. Then came ricers. This is no different.

Probably another 2-3 years.

That sounds like a good idea for a YouTube channel. It would be like how Holmes on Homes finds truly messed up work and fixes it.

Yup one guy said “look at my crazy camber, and larger wheels”,and the next guy said “I can go more hardcore than you bro” and so one and so on. And now pro drift cars have almost noe camber because they are setup in a way that eliminates real caster and without caster you don’t need camber to maintain traction though opposite lock.

‘O WHALES’ is a pretty great plate.
Also, is that miata even #stanced? It just looks really low (and kinda cool).

Most stanced cars look ridiculous to me. But this classic Benz over at Stanceworks looks lovely. It’s lowered, but it doesn’t have the crazy camber changes done to it.
